It would be pertinent to point out to Vincent Aquilina (September 27) that I have never had any grudge against St Julian's local council. I have for quite some years been trying to find out why the council has never done anything for the residential area of Paceville as it has done for other areas of St Julian's.

It should be noted that the quality of life in the residential area of Paceville has deteriorated and no one in authority has lifted a finger about it. We are treated as second-class citizens. All those who are in duty bound to avoid this have failed miserably.

It has been implied that I should stand for election to the council. Well I have never been narcissist, neither have I imagined myself as a fat cat, or an assuming man (Maltese zatat). I have always been "the rear engine" for others and hope to remain so. However, if I should change my mind it will be up to me only and not due to anyone pushing me.

It is also surprising that Mr Aquilina mentioned the Paceville Residents' Association. Maybe he can inform us as to why it was wound down. What work has been done in Paceville is not to the council's credit. We have to thank Portomaso for the pollution they caused and the fine they had to pay for so doing. The works were paid for out of this fine.

Some years ago Church Street had collapsed under the weight of trucks carrying rocks etc. from the Hilton and Dragonara developments and it had to be resurfaced. When the road was up I personally had spoken to Mr Aquilina and recommended that the council seek the advice of an architect since the drainage pipes were "four inch clay" laid in the early days of Paceville, some 70 years ago. I was informed that they had already done so and all was in order.

One week after the works were completed there was a drains blockage as well as a big hole right in front of the church - the road had collapsed. Excellent going I am sure and I hope the contractor has not been paid for the shambles.

Readers, and Mr Aquilina especially, must be reminded that I have never said that there is no local council but that so far as the residential area of Paceville is concerned the local council had done nothing at all.

Way back on September 24, 2001, in answer to one of the council's "champions", I asked that a list of works pertaining to our residential area be published. I am still waiting for that list, which I can assure every reader that it is a blank piece of paper.
