Microsoft yesterday announced it will be opening an office in Malta.
IT Minister Austin Gatt said this was an important step because it showed Microsoft believed there was a future in investing in Malta.
Lebanon-based Charbel Fakhoury, Microsoft's general manager for the eastern Mediterranean, who came to Malta to make the announcement, said Microsoft looked at the Maltese government as both a customer and a partner.
Mr Fakhoury said Microsoft's decision to open an office here was influenced by Malta's European outlook and strong ties with North Africa.
He said Malta had a highly skilled and educated workforce. "We are determined to bring the best of Microsoft to Malta and help Malta grow further," he said.
Mr Fakhoury thanked Pierre Luca Demajo of the Demajo group, Microsoft's agents in Malta, saying they gave Microsoft excellent service.
Pierre Mallia has been appointed the office's business development manager.
