A Mosta man has been put on probation for 18 months for threatening his wife with a knife and assaulting a police sergeant two years ago.

Andrew Spagnol, 37, pleaded guilty to threatening his wife Fiona with a knife and holding her against her will in Mosta on October 6, 2001. He also admitted threatening and assaulting PS Edgar Borg, disobeying the police and breaching the peace.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima put Spagnol on probation on condition that he attends an alcohol rehabilitation programme at Sedqa.
