The Amerigo Express service, which is operated by CMA-CGM Group with China Shipping Container Lines, has started calling at Malta Freeport.

Amerigo Express is offering a fixed-day weekly schedule connecting the US east coast directly with the main Mediterranean ports.

Five container vessels, four from CMA-CGM Group and one from China Shipping, are running this service, providing a port rotation with Malta Freeport, Livorno, Genoa, Fos, Valencia, Lisbon (westbound), New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Port Everglades, Lisbon (eastbound), and back to Malta Freeport.

The CMA-CGM group said the Amerigo Express was a welcome service to importers and exporters seeking a reliable and regular direct link to the US east coast.

The new service was designed to boost business opportunities for local industry with sights set on the US markets.

Malta Freeport's regular service provides network connections with more than 110 ports worldwide, more than 60 of which are in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.

This year, traffic volumes are expected to overtake last year's record-breaking figure of more than 1.24 million TEUs (containers).
