There has been a tremendous response to an appeal for blood donations made in The Times last Monday.

Foreign doctors were coming over to perform several operations, which would have had to be postponed had there been insufficient blood. But 110 people donated blood yesterday and a good flow of donors was expected to continue throughout the week, nursing officer Angelo Degiorgio said.

People wishing to give blood must be healthy and aged between 18 and 60. They should call at the National Blood Transfusion Service near St Luke's Hospital between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Persons aged 17 may also donate blood with their parents' consent.

Blood may also be donated at the Blood Donation Mobile Unit at the Gozo General Hospital or at the blood bank of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta near St Philip's Hospital.
