Malta champions make their mark

David Galea and Maria Mifsud Bonnici, on a high after their success in last Sunday's Coastline National Triathlon Championships, topped the charts in their respective categories at yesterday's Cyprus International Triathlon, held in Limassol.

Mifsud Bonnici finished first in the women's race - held over the Olympic distance - in two hours 18 minutes and 40 seconds.

She finished ahead of compatriot Danica Spiteri who completed the distance in 2:23.22.

The men's race, also comprising a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run, saw Malta champion Galea crossing the finish line first in 2:05.30.

At the end of the race, the Maltese athletes collected over €2,000 in prize money.

The Maltese triathletes' participation in Cyprus was supported by Air Malta, the Malta Olympic Committee and the Cyprus Triathlon Federation.
