A 27-year-old Qormi man was yesterday charged with poisoning cats, which a magistrate termed "disgusting".

Philip Cauchi pleaded not guilty to causing the cats to suffer and killing one of them when he put poison in the calamari they were fed.

When the charge was read out in court Magistrate Abigail Lofaro condemned such behaviour on defenceless cats as disgusting.

She granted Cauchi bail against a Lm200 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm10,000.
