A Mellieha man was yesterday jailed for 19 months for stealing four bottles of whisky during the operative time of a suspended jail term.

Joseph Cutajar, 32, was found guilty of stealing the whisky from a St Julian's shop on September 19, trying to steal from the same shop five days later and committing the crimes during the operative time of a 13-month jail term.

Magistrate Silvio Meli jailed Cutajar for six months and ordered that the suspended jail term be put into effect, bringing the total jail term to 19 months.
