I am not of Maltese origin but would have been proud if I was born on the island of Malta. How can a Maltese national reject the greatest bravery honour bestowed to man, the George Cross? I have been following letters submitted in the local press, some for and some against, and I am truly shocked to read the letter by Michael Galea (October 4).
Just have a look at Poland's national flag and Malta's, they are both red and white but see if you can spot the difference. The George Cross was given to the Maltese people and not to the government of Malta and only one united plea by all the Maltese can possibly remove the coveted award from the flag.
I say to all Maltese to treasure this priceless gift from the late King George - as there will never be another opportunity to acquire such an award. After all, this award has really put Malta on the international map, something you desperately need, especially at the present time.
