Tarxien Rainbows FC teams in Czech tour

Two Tarxien Rainbows FC nursery teams recently returned from a 10-day training camp in the Czech Republic.

During their stay, the teams participated in the Postorna Cup in Breclav. In the U-15 class, Tarxien won all their games to claim the honours but the U-13 team had to settle for the runners-up spot.

The U-15s beat SK Tatran Postorna 2-1, TJ Slovan Breclav 1-0 and Lokomotiv Mikulov 8-2. Here, goalkeeper Christian Scicluna was voted the Best Player of the tournament.

The U-13 team drew with Postorna 3-3 and TJ Slovan Breclav 1-1. They beat Lokomotiv Mikulov 4-1.

The Tarxien boys, under the charge of head coach Edgar Tonna and assistant Joe Cutajar, had daily training sessions at the new Tatran Stadium in Postorna, which was officially inaugurated during the youth tournament.

For this ceremony Tarxien were invited to play against home side SK Tatran Postorna. Tarxien won the friendly 4-1. The climax of the ceremony was the game between SK Tatran Postorna's first team and former Czech internationals including Kuka, Nemecek, Luzny and Stejskal, who all played in the EURO '96 finals in England.

The Tarxien contingent, also accompanied by nursery officials Louis Zammit, Albert Catania and Aaron Spiteri, visited Brno, among other educational tours, and practised along with AC Sparta Brno players.
