Tourism industry hails awards recipients

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has congratulated the Skäl Tourism Award winners particularly Corinthia Group chairman Alfred Pisani who was voted Tourism and Travel Personality of the Year.

MHRA president Winston J. Zahra said: "Mr Pisani is one of the pioneers of the tourism industry. He has led the Corinthia Group through 40 years of growth and transformed it from a small restaurant operation in the mid-1960s into the international hotel chain it is today. Mr Pisani is a man of vision and great detail with a high degree of passion for the hospitality industry. The MHRA feels that Mr Pisani has been very fittingly honoured with the Tourism and Travel Personality of the Year award".

The MHRA also applauded the other recipients of awards in various categories including the Barracuda Restaurant in the catering category, Le Meridien Phoenicia in the accommodation category, Island Publications in the media and promotion category, Hera Cruises in the transport category, Sterling Travel and Tourism in the incoming tourism category, Flyaway tours in the outgoing tourism category and IELS in the academic and professional category.

The MHRA also congratulated Skäl Malta for the organisation of the event and augured that the awards would continue to encourage the achievement of high standards by various operators in the travel and tourism industry in the years to come.
