At times I doubt very much whether Ibrag/Pembroke have a local council, for if they had one the council would surely make it its priority to see that roads and streets around the area are made as safe as possible. How can one explain the fact that cars are allowed to park near Top Line shop sometimes unauthorised, right up to the traffic lights by Jessie's Bar?
Cars coming out of Swieqi cannot drive on in their lane on to St Andrew's because cars are allowed to park all along that stretch of road right up to Top Line and, to make matters worse, very often one finds cars double- parked there as well. All this apart from the fact that the owners of the parked cars are constantly opening and closing the driver's door to alight or ride off in their car.
How can the council justify allowing cars to be parked in this very busy stretch of a main road; is it maybe on account of the few shops there? If this is in the affirmative then this is gross discrimination on other shops where parking is definitely, and rightly so, prohibited. I drive along this area every single day and the chaos reigning there has to be seen to be believed.
You have a situation where two lanes of cars are advancing towards the traffic lights and another lane of cars is exiting from Swieqi and the road suddenly turns into a single lane or maybe a lane and a half. In fact, many cars on the outside lane can be seen driving over the middle white line in order to continue towards the traffic lights. I think it is about time that the local council responsible for this area takes up this matter seriously and does something concrete about it.
It is useless sending wardens to book cars in the parking area reserved for residents at Pembroke but then allow this mess to continue.
