The first co-operation agreement between two national business support organisations of the 10 new accession countries to the European Union was signed in Malta recently between Malta Enterprise and its counterpart in Estonia, Enterprise Estonia.

The agreement was signed by Malta Enterprise chairman Joseph Zammit Tabona and Ms Tea Varrak, president of Enterprise Estonia.

The Malta side will assist Estonian companies to do business in the Mediterranean, while Enterprise Estonia will provide support and assistance to Maltese companies looking to do business in the Baltic States and Russia.

The agreement includes the reciprocal distribution of business information, reciprocal assistance in the organisation of business delegations, and even a resource-sharing arrangement whereby Maltese companies, through Malta Enterprise, will use some of the overseas offices of Enterprise Estonia in Eastern Europe.

The prospect of joint marketing activities in the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe were discussed. At least one delegation of Maltese and Estonia business people with non-competing products and services will probably be organised early next year.
