I have always loved good music and powerful vibrant voices. In fact, I consider music as one of the many pleasures of life. Music is the "food of the spirit" and whenever I feel down-hearted, I just play some happy tune and my spirits soar high!
Now, one of my favourite songs is the beautiful, popular You'll Never Walk Alone. Who has not heard this lovely song at one time or another? I consider myself very fortunate in that I have heard this song interpreted by two of the most brilliant artists of the moment, the fabulous artist Jessye Norman and the fantastic Renée Fleming. They both chose to sing this beautiful song accompanied by a full orchestra, a harp and a choir and the result was simply "sheer magic".
I have to thank TVM for transmitting these two programmes. One was only a few weeks ago on the occasion of the Award of the Nobel Prize for Peace to former US President Jimmy Carter. The concert was very ably presented by actor Anthony Hopkins. The most famous entertainers took part but still the one who stole the show was undoubtedly the fabulous Jessye Norman. Her powerful voice vibrated through the audience who were simply thrilled at her performance.
The other concert was transmitted about three years ago from Rotterdam where Lionel Ritchie and Andrea Bocelli took part. There again the one who stole the show was surely Renée Fleming. Her heartfelt, passionate performance was a joy for all! This is what I consider to be good music.
So, while thanking TVM once again, I wish they would give us more of these concerts.
