With reference to Paul Busuttil's letter (September 17), I sympathise will all the residents of Mensija Road and St Margaret Street. What Mr Busuttil wrote is all true. How can a six-foot-wide bus turn into St Margaret Street from Ta' Giorni without causing a traffic jam?
What Mr Busuttil forgot to mention was that on both opposite sides of this crossroad one can find a busy mini-market and an ironmonger, which surely keeps the area dense with cars/vans, loading and unloading goods on the spot.
I do not know what actually happened but so far as I can remember when I was a member of the third council we had suggested that route buses coming from Ta' Giorni should pass from Hyacinth Street, changing the one-way directions of St Margaret and Hyacinth streets accordingly.
Finally, may I ask the council in what way were these residents informed or consulted about this new bus route? Such consultation is clearly emphasised in the local council Act No XV of 1993.
