Charles Meilak writes (September 18) that the traditional Maltese flag was always red and white and lobbies for the removal of the George Cross. He has the audacity to prefer the Maltese Cross to the George Cross.

How ludicrous can he be? How can anyone compare between the Maltese Cross and the George Cross, the latter awarded to the Maltese people for heroism never witnessed before.

Mr Meilak goes on to ask whether, if Malta were to be awarded another similar award, we should inscribe it, yet again on our flag. If this happens it is up to the government of the day to decide what to do with such an award.

With regard to what the late Dun Karm said, the George Cross was awarded to the people of Malta and not to him personally.
