Renzo Correzzola, general manager of Westin Dragonara Resort, has been promoted to director of Six Sigma and Master Black Belt for the Italy and Malta region, as the group yesterday announced a change of management.

In his new role, Mr Correzzola will be responsible for accomplishing innovative business processes and improvements for the Italy and Malta region.

He will take up the new position as from October 1 and shall be based at the Starwood and Ciga Hotels regional headquarters in Rome.

Taking over from Mr Correzzola in Malta will be Hans Cauchi, the first Maltese national to be appointed as general manager at the Westin Dragonara.

Mr Cauchi, 38, recently spent three years in Lisbon, Portugal, with responsibilities for a number of properties located within the Iberian Peninsula for an international hotel chain.

Another new member of the executive team will be Michael Camilleri Kamsky, who is to take up the position of director of sales and marketing as from October 1. He replaces Ian Ciappara who has been promoted to director of event marketing for Italy and Malta.

Stephen Alden, vice-president, director of operations for Italy and Malta for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, operators of the Westin, said the group has sought to tap one of the most highly qualified and experienced management teams the industry has to offer.

One has to keep in mind that there were very few places in the Mediterranean where the five-star bed stock increased so rapidly over such a short period of time.

The Westin Dragonara resort is in its sixth year of operation and employs over 300 full-time employees and an additional 100 part-timers during the peak season.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with more than 740 properties in more than 80 countries and 105,000 employees at its owned and managed properties.
