A lay volunteer is spending a year in San Manuel Chaparron, Guatemala doing missionary work.

Seminarian Michael Curmi, 21, of Xaghra, was given a Missionary Cross symbolising his mandate during Mass at the Marija Bambina Collegiate church, in Xaghra.

His visit is being organised by the Voluntiera Lajci Missjunarji which prepares volunteers for such missions. During the past 18 years, VLM has sent more than 50 lay volunteers to Third World countries.
