The Union Haddiema Maghqudin said yesterday it was prepared to order sympathy industrial action in different sectors in connection with its dispute with Appogg agency.
The union said UHM general secretary Gejtu Vella yesterday briefed its council about the dispute.
The council unanimously expressed solidarity with Appogg workers and urged the government to accept the union's proposals for the dispute to be resolved.
The Maltese Association of Social Workers (MASW) said yesterday it was seriously concerned with developments at Appogg and the way a section of the media commented on the dispute. It is particularly concerned how this may have affected the public image of the social work profession.
The association said its objective was in ensuring that social workers provided the best professional services possible. This objective would not be fully attained if it was not complemented with good working conditions for social workers, especially their legal recognition as professionals.
The association appealed to all parties to do their utmost to resolve the dispute as soon as possible.
