After the success of last year's recovery programme, in which over 80,000 outdated copies of the Yellow Pages were reclaimed, Yellow Pages (Malta) Ltd has announced that this year it is taking the same initiative.
Once again, this non-profit venture aims to prevent unnecessary waste from finding its way into Malta's overburdened landfill sites.
In the coming weeks, more than 218,000 copies of the 2003/2004 edition of the Yellow Pages will be distributed to homes, businesses and hotels in Malta and Gozo.
At the same time, the public will be encouraged to take the opportunity to dispose of their old copies in a more environmentally friendly manner.
Before the distribution, each household and office will receive a pre-notification notice informing them of the exact date of delivery. The notice will remind recipients that Yellow Pages Malta is once again collecting outdated copies, as well as making the collection more effective and efficient.
The public will be asked to leave old copies near their letterboxes, on the doorstep, or in the hallway in case of apartments, on the specific date indicated on the pre-notification process.
Like the delivery, the recovery of outdated copies of the Yellow Pages is free of charge. Niki Soler, managing director of Yellow Pages (Malta), explained that once again, the emphasis is on doing one's bit for the environment.
"Naturally, we don't expect the island's entire waste management problem to be solved overnight simply as a result of our recollection programme.
"But we do feel that it is up to each of us to take responsibility for the environment we live in. By participating in the programme, Malta's households and businesses will also be detracting from the substantial volume of paper waste produced in Malta each year."
Since its inception in 1997, the Yellow Pages has grown to include over 40,000 business listings, and market surveys have repeatedly indicated that it is the number one choice for sourcing products and services on the local market.
Households have already started receiving pre-notification notices, and the delivery is set to commence tomorrow. Delivery dates vary according to locality and area, but all Yellow Pages directories will be delivered by September 29.
