I find it most objectionable and disturbing that the roof of St Julian's parish church should be used by a group of gun-toting macho men to celebrate their bloody sport during the feast of St Julian.

How can the parish priest of St Julian's condone such vulgarity and profanity on the roof of the parish church? Cannot he see that these gun fanatics do not care a bean for St Julian and that they are using the roof of the church to flaunt their machismo? Is it not shocking to read in The Times that hunters even shot at the microphone of a parish priest who tried to intervene in an altercation between hunters and festa participants?

As for Aldo Azzopardi and his fellow bird killers, may I suggest that they should seek the patronage of saints like St Francis of Assisi, who was well known for his love and respect for living creatures.

In the literature on St Francis, Mr Azzopardi can read how St Francis wished to "supplicate the Emperor" (Frederick II, a hunter of birds) "to tell him, for the love of God and me, to make a special law that no man should take or kill our sisters the larks, not do them any harm".
