Great, but...
I read Natale Azzopardi's letter (September 5) on the Paceville area with great interest. I am a regular visitor to Malta and often stay in the Paceville area so, hence, I also drink there. I agree that something does need doing about the litter problem.

I recommend Malta to friends who come back and say they have had a great time and then go on to the great but - they comment on the litter problem of the Paceville area.
There are some great night spots in the area. It is obvious that when there are large numbers of people enjoying themselves, litter etc will be generated. It is the duty of the local council to clear up the mess.
I come from Leeds, in England, which over the past few years has become the night spot of the north as it has many bars, nightclubs, takeways etc and a huge university population. Litter is generated here just the same but it is cleared up by the council before the shops open the following day. Leeds has huge pedestrian areas and has purchased specialist equipment to combat the litter problem.
Benidorm in Spain is probably the largest tourist area in Europe and it too operates the same priorities as Leeds and uses modern equipment.
I suggest mayor Peter Bonello should look at these methods and even come to Leeds to see how it can be done. I am sure members of the Leeds city council refuse management department could advise on the equipment which is suitable.
Please deal with the problem, make Paceville a safe, clean place where locals and tourists can enjoy the facilities of the area. I can remember when there were only a few bars in the area, many have closed or been demolished but some are still there.
Hiccups was one such bar and is still there, alive and kicking, serving the best burgers in Malta. Nice one Charlie.
