On September 1 the weekly Lehen is-Sewwa turned 75. It was on August 15, 1928, that Archbishop Maurus Caruana in a pastoral letter announced that Lehen is-Sewwa would be published. Fifteen days later, on September 1, the first copies of the paper were on sale.

The paper kept its appointment with its readers every week since then. Besides, for several years - from January 1, 1936, till January 1943 - the paper was published daily.

The achievement of Lehen is-Sewwa is no mean feat. The paper had, throughout its history, to go through several tough battles. It gave valid contributions during different periods and emerged stronger after each crisis. The paper also depended a lot on the generous contribution of several people, especially its editors.

Chev. Paul Saliba has been occupying the editor's chair for 30 years. Even this is an achievement. He must be a very happy editor today.

We warmly congratulate him and Catholic Action on this important anniversary. One augurs that Il-Lehen will face the challenges of the present and the future with an open mind and that it will continue to succeed fulfilling its weekly appointment with its loyal readers for many years to come.
