Six environment organisations have condemned the recent importation of dolphins by Mediterraneo Marine Park, saying they had been "kidnapped" from their families to be imprisoned for life in a concrete pool to perform silly tricks for the amusement of a few.

The organisations were the Catcare Association, the Island Sanctuary, Nature Trust, International Animal Rescue (Malta), World Animal Conscience and Graffiti.

They said the pool at the park was too small for the dolphins, and concrete pools could never replace the rich open sea that nature provided.

They also condemned the authorities for having paved the way for the importation, through the publication of a legal notice on August 12, without consulting any organisations.
