The highlight of the first ever trip abroad by the Pembroke Athleta nursery footballers, represented by the U-10 and U-12 groups, was the training sessions conducted by two qualified Manchester United coaches at The Cliff Training Ground.
The Cliff is Manchester United's former first team training ground where the likes of Bobby Charlton and George Best used to practise in their days. The place is now utilised for young footballers' coaching programmes and schemes. The complex also includes an indoor full size astro turf pitch where some of the Pembroke boys' training took place.
During the tour, friendly matches against Manchester United-registered youth clubs Langsworthy FC, Moorside Ranger and Middleton Boys, gave the boys some much-needed experience of tough and fast football which was well countered by the Pembroke teams who obtained creditable results.
A visit to Alton Towers, Blackpool Beach Park, Old Trafford Museum and football ground and Manchester City's new sports complex completed this tour which will surely not be forgotten by the boys and officials at Pembroke.
The nursery was assisted by TeamSport, Maltacom Plc and Pete Shakespeare, youth referee and official in Manchester.
Meanwhile, the nursery is urging youngsters wishing to join the nursery to register at the club after 7 p.m. One may obtain more details by phoning 21-375128 or 21-375129.
