Fina domination in Division One
Comfortable wins for DAB Beer, DUWPA
Week eight of the Honda Division One league, at the Eden SuperBowl, produced four 8-0 wins, resulting in some dramatic positional changes.
Fina First doubled their lead at the top by taking full points against Aercomms, sending the latter tumbling from second to fifth place. Sister team Fina Excel climbed to the second spot after thrashing Ramis.
Maltacom KSSK held on to third place with a 6-2 victory over Mizzi Organisation. The series of the week belonged to DAB Beer as they took all eight points against Globalair Travel with a 2,489 total.
Leaders Fina First took on Aercomms who came into the match in second place, knowing that a win would take them to the top. It was Fina who took control first, however, opening with an 813 in the first, 76 pins better than Aercomms.
Although Aercomms improved in the ensuing two games, Fina played with great consistency to take both games for a 2,461 series.
Leli Baldacchino was Fina's star player on the night with a 664 as Ray Falzon bowled a 586 for Aercomms.
Fina Excel also scored highly as they faced Ramis, rolling a 2,481 series to clinch all eight points.
Ramis started with a 792 but it was not enough to open the scoring as Excel took an 808 for a narrow win. Game two was a demoralising one for Ramis whose 778 score was blasted off the board by Fina Excel's massive 881. Excel started the final game with a 119-pin cushion.
Ramis were shaken. They could only manage a 677 to Excel's 792 in game three. Excel are second now but Ramis slipped to ninth. Melissa Anastasi played an excellent 674 series for Fina Excel.
DAB Beer were on top form against Globalair Travel, who lost out in game one of their match in spite of playing a solid 826 game. DAB took the wind out of their sails by taking the game by 37 pins on an 863.
They followed up with a 791 as Globalair struggled to keep the pace, losing out on a 713 total.
The teams drifted even further in opposite directions in game three. DAB piled on the pressure by rolling an 835 but their opponents floundered to a disappointing 685.
DAB Beer, sixth, bowled the team series of the night (2,489 pins), helped on by Alan Sammut's 653 set.
The other 8-0 victory of the night went to DUWPA in their match with unlucky Palatino. It was an extremely close contest in game one, which fell to DUWPA by just two pins (732-730). Game two could also have gone either way as DUWPA were again winners 728-706.
There was little doubt in game three, however. DUWPA made sure of the white-wash with their 836 against a 762 from Palatino.
Maltacom KSSK held on to their third spot despite dropping two points against Mizzi Organisation.
Maltacom were first on the scoreboard, winning the opener 740-694, but Mizzi Org. levelled matters in a very close second game - 708-712.
The two teams improved their scrappy performances in game three, but it was Maltacom who clinched victory for a 6-2 win.
Vodka Cruiser won 6-2 against an unimpressive Playzone side. Leofric Tabone Valetta claimed a 599 series for the winners who are still bottom.
