Malta has taken part in the 13th Triennial Conference of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association held in Mangochi, Malawi.
The conference was attended by 300 delegates from 35 Commonwealth countries. Nineteen chief justices, or heads of the judiciary, also took part.
Chief Justice Vincent de Gaetano and Judge Joseph D. Camilleri attended.
The conference discussed problems connected with the needs and rights of humans and the influence of the judiciary on socio-economic rights.
The fight against corruption was also discussed and chief justices and heads of the judiciary approved a statement that addresses the problem of independence and integrity of the judiciary and the appointment of judges to the bench.
