Reading the front page Reuters' report "Libya heads for rehabilitation" (August 18), one comes across the following astonishing factual sentence.

"One of the men, Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, was found guilty of planting a suitcase bomb aboard the transatlantic jumbo jet".

Which prompts the question: Was he really convicted for planting the bomb aboard the jumbo jet before it took off?
