Marriages
Mr STEPHEN BRIFFA, B.Ed. (Hons.) and Miss ANGÈLE ZAMMIT MANGION, B.Psy.
The marriage took place on Saturday, August 2, at St Publius parish church, Floriana, between STEPHEN, son of Mr and Mrs Saviour Briffa of Birkirkara, and ANGÈLE, daughter of Mr Albert Victor Zammit Mangion and the late Mrs Anna Zammit Mangion of Floriana. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr Joseph Cassar, SJ. The ceremony was witnessed by Mrs Rosette Hili and Mr Christian Micallef. Mr Gerald Grech carried out the duties of best man. Mrs Cecilia Agius Muscat was matron of honour while Ms Alexia Portughese was bridesmaid and Michela Galea was flower-girl. Mr Publius Agius and Mr Richard Briffa were ushers. A reception was later held at Villa Arrigo, San Pawl tat-Targa. The couple spent their honeymoon touring Switzerland.
Dr ALDO POLARA, MD, Ph.D. and Miss PAOLA CARDILLO
The marriage took place on Friday, August 8, at the Duomo di San Giorgio, Modica, Sicily, between ALDO, son of Professor Giovanni Polara and Maria Antonietta Polara, and PAOLA, daughter of Salvatore and Angela Cardillo. Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Padre Giovanni Stracquadanio. Sig.ra Annamaria Rossi Cardillo, Sig.ra Gabriella Caruso and Mrs Simone Miller were witnesses for the bride. Sig.ra Mariella Scatà, Avv. Giuseppe Polara and Dott. Corrado Rizzone were witnesses for the groom. A dinner was later held at Serrauccelli, the groom's country house in Modica. The couple spent their honeymoon on a cruise in the Mediterranean.
Obituary
Ghirxi. On August 30, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, Francis, aged 82, of Marsa, widower of Gaetana, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Mary and her husband Leonard Mizzi, and Marthese and her husband Joseph Tedesco, his grandchildren Alan and Tanya, his brother and sister and their respective spouses, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence tomorrow at 7.30 a.m. for Holy Trinity Church, Marsa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated.
SULTANA. On August 29, at Gozo General Hospital, GUZEPPA of Xaghra, widow of Karmnu, at the venerable age of 94, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Maria, Bernarda, widow of Saver Theuma, Consiglia and her husband Joe Grima, Joe and his wife Lucy née Sammut, her eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
