The Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) Law Compliance Unit recently carried out investigations at 97 hotel and catering establishments in Gozo.
The ETC said its officials interviewed 536 people found to be working in them, of whom 235 were not registered with the ETC, 10 were registered as unemployed, and four were under age.
The ETC will be taking legal action against the owners of the establishments and those who registered with the corporation as unemployed but were found to be working will be removed struck off the unemployment list.
The ETC is also introducing a new freephone service 0800-7650 for those who wish to report people registered as unemployed with ETC who are actually in employment, people actively working without having handed in an employment form to ETC, people working under 16 years and foreigners working without a permit.
