An online physics course leading to the Secondary Education Certificate ordinary level examination was launched yesterday at the education ministry.

Education Minister Louis Galea said students could follow lessons from home in their own time - asking questions through e-mail.

The course, which has been completely designed in Malta and for which one can apply online, costs Lm25.

The minister said this was another learning opportunity particularly for those adults, who, for one reason or other, could not be trained in certain subjects when they were at school.

The course could also be an important help to youths following physics at secondary level.

The physics course, the minister said, was a pilot project and other courses were expected to be offered in future. The course consists of two parts with 15 lessons in each.

It includes a number of 30-minute lessons on Channel 22 and also available on video, explanations, notes and questions on the internet, and a virtual laboratory on the internet. Participants would be assigned a tutor who would correct their work and answer their problems through e-mail.

Further information about the course can be obtained from an information booklet obtainable from local councils or on the net, or from the ministry's website. Information can also be obtained on tel. 2122 4275, 2598 2429 or 2598 2371.
