The efforts of Corinthia's top-producing local destination management companies for 2002 received recognition from Corinthia Hotels International at the third edition of the company's 'DMC Awards Night', held at Castello Zammitello in Mgarr recently.

Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech and CHI's chairman, Karmenu Vella, presented Corinthia Awards for best overall meetings, incentive, conference and events (MICE) business providers for CHI in Malta and also for the top individual MICE business providers for each of Corinthia's five Malta hotels.

Dr Zammit Dimech said MICE guests spend up to three times more than an average tourist, and in 2001 alone accounted for three per cent of all arrivals and seven per cent of total gross earnings from tourism.

The top award for best overall DMC went to the Alliance Group, represented by Mario Borg, Joseph Caruana, Peter Cauchi and Roger Strickland.

Runner-up was Colours of Malta represented by Davide Cachia, and second runner-up Special Interest Travel, represented by Godwin Miceli and Anthony Rossi.

The five individual awards went to Alliance Group for business to Corinthia Marina and Corinthia Mistra Village Hotels; Best of Malta, represented by Joseph Diacono, for business to Corinthia Jerma Palace Hotel; Colours of Malta, for business to Corinthia San Gorg Hotel; and Prima Tours, represented by David Mangion, for business to Corinthia Palace Hotel.
