Labour leader Alfred Sant has expressed solidarity with those who lost their jobs in recent weeks or were about to be laid off.
Speaking during a social activity organised by the St Julian's MLP section, Dr Sant said the party would be monitoring the situation.
The situation, he said, was one of concern, as although the government always held that everything was going well, new direct investment had waned. "The Nationalist Party and its allies had ridiculed the MLP's efforts when it warned employees and managers of companies to do their homework," Dr Sant said.
The MLP would be working to ensure that Malta reaped the benefits of EU membership while efforts should be made now to soften the blows in those areas where EU membership had its disadvantages, he said.
