The visible trade gap in the first six months of this year widened by Lm23.3 million to Lm185.7 million from Lm162.4 million last year, the Central Statistics Office said.

In the first six months this year, total imports increased by Lm41.6 million or seven per cent to Lm640 million from Lm598.4 million in the same period last year.

In the period under review, total exports increased by Lm18.2 million or 4.2 per cent to Lm454.3 million from Lm436.1 million last year.

On their own, domestic exports rose by Lm13.2 million to Lm391.6 million. Re-exports went up by Lm5 million to Lm62.7 million.

In June alone, imports increased by Lm3.4 million to Lm109.4 million while total exports increased by Lm6.0 million to Lm80.5. million.

Domestic exports increased by Lm3.7 million to Lm69.3 million and re-exports were up by Lm2.3 million to Lm11.2 million.
