Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities reported that the first estimate for EU trade with the rest of the world in June 2003 was a €3.7 billion deficit, against a surplus of €2.4 billion in June 2002.

The first estimate for euro-zone trade with the rest of the world in June 2003 was a €5.4 billion surplus, against a €10.3 billion surplus in June 2002.

In the case of Malta, total imports in May 2003 dropped by Lm0.6 million to Lm108.1 million when compared to the same month last year, statistics from the National Statistics Office show.

Also in May, total exports from Malta dropped by Lm2.9 million to Lm73.4 million from Lm76.3 million a year earlier.
