Former England and Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe has turned down Floriana's offer to join their team.
The Greens had been in negotiations with the player's agent for the past week but the club's financial restrictions scuppered the 32-year-old's potential move to Floriana.
Club official Trevor Zahra said that Sharpe was keen to play for the Greens but the financial terms of Floriana's contract offer were not attractive enough for the player who preferred to concentrate on his business ventures in the UK.
Zahra said that two English players are expected to arrive in Malta in the coming days to start a trial with the club. Kris O'Neill and Victor Fayenuwo have both accepted to travel to Malta and train with Ziya Yildiz's squad. They join Brazilian midfielder Rocha Da Silva who is also looking to earn a contract with the Greens.
Floriana have already two foreign players on their books, Brazilian striker Edoardo Do Nascimento and Congolese defender Riad-Mynel Gango-Rtsa.
