A twinning agreement between Munxar and Ragalna, Sicily, was officially endorsed, during an activity which was held recently on Main Square, Munxar.
Prior to the activity, Munxar mayor Joseph Sultana and Regalna mayor Vittorio Carone, inaugurated a new public garden, partly sponsored by the Malta Tourism Authority, which was named Gnien Ragalna.
Those present then went to Munxar Square, accompanied by the St Gregory Band of Kercem.
Alvin Scicluna and Kaylie Vella introduced the evening narrating the history of Munxar and Regalna in Maltese and Italian.
The Ilhna Smewwija choir and the Allegro group, as well as the Coro Mariele Ventre di Ragusa which was invited specifically to perform Italian children's songs, selected from past editions of the Zecchino D'Oro festival performed.
The signing of the agreement was followed by a commemorative speech by Dr Carone. A memento of the occasion was presented to the Munxar chaplain Fr Frankie Bajada, who then gave an address of thanks.
Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono's address was followed by the distribution of mementos to the distinguished guests. A symbolic dance performance entitled Gemellagg, in honour of the occasion, was performed by the group Local Foot Steps.
The event ended with the Maltese and Italian national anthems, sung by the Coro Mariele Ventre di Ragusa and the Ilhna Zaghar choir, followed by an open air Maltese dinner, which was held on the sqaure.
