The MCAST (Gozo Centre) is providing Gozitan school leavers with alternative options to further their studies and enhance their potential for future employment.
The centre's course framework does not only provide opportunities for secondary school leavers but also for people with various levels of qualifications.
A number of courses, which focus on the development of practical skills, are available for students with little or no qualification at all. A number of higher-level courses in specialised areas target qualified students who are more inclined to vocational education rather than the traditional academic education path. Through the MCAST framework, students without any qualification can progress from one level to another and possibly even to more specialised higher-level courses in Malta.
For the next academic year, MCAST will be delivering 13 courses in Gozo. These include the MCAST/BTEC First Diploma for IT practitioners (entry requirements: two O'Levels); the MCAST/BTEC National Diploma for IT practitioners (four O'Levels); the MCAST/BTECH First Diploma in Electrical/Electronics (O'Level passes in Maths and Physics); the certificate in Mechanical Engineering Course (O'Level passes in two out of Maths, Physics and Technical Drawing/Graphical Communication); the Technician in Draughtsmanship (O'Level passes in two out of Maths Physics and Technical Drawing/Graphical Communication); the certificate in Administrative and Secretarial Studies course (five O'Levels, including English, Maths and Maltese); the certificate in Banking and Financial Services Course (five O'Levels including English, Maths and Maltese); the Accounting Technician Certificate course (four O'Levels); the certificate in Retailing course (no entry qualifications required, presentation of school-leaving certificate); the Foundation course in Care (no entry qualifications required, presentation of school-leaving certificate); the MCAST/BTEC First diploma in Care (two O'Levels) and the certificate in Hairdressing Course (two O'Levels ).
The Foundation Certificate course (no entry qualifications required, presentation of school-leaving certificate) will be targeting students who unfortunately completed their compulsory education without attaining any qualifications and consequently have bleak employment prospects. This course will be giving these students the basic skills in a number of trades, including modules in basic skills in IT.
Courses will be held at the Xaghra premises and the new centre in Xewkija which was extensively refurbished. More information and copies of the prospectus can be obtained from Maria Cassar on 2155-6275.
