The most coveted award of the year in the Trap events is the title of All Malta Champion.

This annual competition is held at this time of the year with the shooter who clinches this prestigious award ensuring that his name is etched on a bronze plaque at the Bidnija clubhouse.

It is the ultimate achievement for a Maltese Trap shooter to have his name added to the long array of all-time champions.

How greater is that feat when a shooter manages to win the competition a record six times! Last weekend, Frans Pace did just that.

The competition was on 125 clays and a 25-clay final as in international events.

The first 75 clays were shot on Saturday and Pace produced some sharp shooting, topping the scoreboard with 73 hits ahead of Nicky Carabott on 71 and John Marmara on 70. All three shot straights in the process.

The next 50 clays on the Sunday morning did not change the top places.

In the final barrage, Pace and Carabott hung on to their positions although the midday sweltering sun was draining all the shooting energy from the finalists.

Joe Attard braved the heat and shot a 24, toppling Marmara for the third podium position.
