Alternattiva Demokratika noted that the long overdue introduction of bus ticketing machines has not resulted in real improvements and due to the lack of incentives, most people have kept buying their tickets from drivers on the bus itself.

AD therefore reiterated its proposals for the introduction of day, week and monthly tickets, which should be sold at a rate which is more advantageous for the consumer than buying single tickets.

These tickets should also be sold at shops apart from vending machines.

AD is also calling on the government, the Malta Transport Authority and Maltese and Gozitan local councils to support the car-free day initiative which will be observed in all European countries on September 22.

The aim of this event is to make towns more amenable to those travelling on foot or bicycle or other environment friendly means of transport like public transport.
