Following an increase of 20c last week, HSBC's share price opened trading on Monday at Lm4.70 and went up to close at Lm4.80 yesterday, an increase of a further 10c, or 2.128 per cent.

A total of 30,194 shares changed hands during the week, over 23 deals. Following Friday's session 200 shares at Lm4.70 and 1,000 shares at Lm4.87 were the best outstanding bids and offers respectively.

Bank of Valletta shares witnessed an increase of 5c during the week after Monday's trading session closed at Lm2.34 (unchanged from the previous reading), while yesterday's session closed at Lm2.39. 24,403 shares changed hands in total, over 28 deals. 550 shares at Lm2.34 and 600 shares at Lm2.389 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively after yesterday's session came to a close.

Maltacom shares opened at Lm1.14 on Monday, with trading reaching a weekly high of Lm1.155 during that session. The rest of the week saw the price ease back down to close yesterday at Lm1.005.

Total turnover for the week amounted to 62,309 shares changing hands over 45 deals. At the close of business yesterday best bids for 5,000 shares at Lm1.008 stood against best offers of 1,000 shares at Lm1.069.

Middlesea Insurance plc shares opened the week's trading at Lm2.40 on Monday, down by 9c from the previous close. Trading in the equity then proceeded to go up to close the week at Lm2.47.

Turnover amounted to five deals being struck, over which 40,014 shares changed hands. As yesterday's trading session drew to a close, 990 shares at Lm2.10 were the best unsatisfied bids, while 43 shares at Lm2.48 were the best outstanding offers.

In a company announcement issued yesterday, the Board of Directors of Global Financial Services Group plc stated that the consolidations of all of the company's fully paid up ordinary shares on a one for five basis approved at a recently held Annual General Meeting has been effected yesterday following the close of trading.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place: 1,350 International Hotel Investments shares at Lm0.879; 16,000 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.685 and Lm0.69; 1,209 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares at Lm0.77; 2,000 FIMBank shares at USD 1.17 and 3,289 Global Financial Services Group plc shares between Lm0.19 and Lm0.20.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm1,404,200 being traded in 110 deals over 16 different stocks.

Of these, a nominal value of Lm687,600 changed hands in the 5.5 per cent MGS 2023 while a nominal value of Lm557,300 changed hands in the 5.1 per cent MGS 2014 (III). Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm171,526.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index decreased by 24.06 points or 1.176 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,021.457.
