UEFA delegate to inspect Hibs Ground

A UEFA delegate will soon be visiting the islands to inspect the Hibs Ground after owners AS Hibernians Limited complained against a 'not suitable' tag attached to their stadium last month by the European ruling body of football.

The Hibs Ground hosted a Champions League match on July 16, between Sliema Wanderers and FC Skonto, but the management staff was then surprised by UEFA who said the venue was 'not suitable' and therefore not up to standard for European Cup ties.

Sliema ousted Skonto and were ready to stay away from the National Stadium, and a compulsory Lm5,000 MFA guarantee by staging their home leg against FC Copenhagen - played on Wednesday - at Corradino.

AS Hibernians Ltd contended that some of the points highlighted by UEFA not to allow Champions League matches to be played at their venue were groundless and invited UEFA to look into the case once again.

In its reply to Hibs' letter, the Competitions Department said UEFA will be sending its delegate to inspect the Hibs Ground in the coming days.
