Eurostat said the gross domestic product in the 15 member states of the European Union grew by 0.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2003.

In comparison with the first quarter of 2002, the GDP in the EU grew by 1.1 per cent.

Eurostat also reported that the GDP in the 12 member states that form the eurozone grew by 0.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2003. Compared to the first quarter of 2002 the GDP in the eurozone grew by 0.9 per cent.
