The delay in issuing children's allowance cheques was causing hardship to many families, threatening their quality of life and dignity, Labour spokesman Marie Louise Coleiro said.

Speaking at a press conference in front of the Ministry for Social Policy, in Valletta Ms Coleiro said children's allowance was introduced by the Labour government of the 1970s and the cheques were eagerly awaited by many who had debts or rents to pay or who had to buy books or uniforms for their children.
