The Malta Transport Authority (ADT) has run a number of refresher courses for licensed driving instructors in view of its plans to introduce a compulsory theory test and to upgrade the practical skills test for the attainment of a driving licence.
The ADT is also planning to introduce a points system based on a probationary period of three years for the issue of the proper licence.
The ADT said the courses were aimed at ensuring that driving instructors were fully conversant not only with the changes of the law, but also with the essential skills which a learner driver would have to perform in the new test.
Driving skills, details on the theory test and the contents of the new skills and behaviour test were an integral part of the course, the authority said.
The courses were organised by Louis Cuschieri, manager, Training and Education in the ADT's Transport Strategy Directorate and conducted by Peter Ripard, himself a qualified driving instructor and a consultant to the authority.
