Why do the authorities impose a check in the form of the VRT upon vehicles in order to ensure that the brakes, indicators, alignment etc. etc. are as they should be?
What are the authorities doing to check on the cranes, trucks and vans that are all spewing oil in the form of leaks? What are they doing to check the buses that emit black fumes that also smell of kerosene?
What are they doing to check the trucks and vans that emit black fumes from their exhaust? How much stress is exercised on these vehicles to check for fumes and leaks?
I am sure that these responsible persons have travelled abroad, and must have seen buses, trucks and vans pass by. I am also sure that they did not see the black fumes being emitted from their exhausts.
One must also ask whether the quality of the diesel or petrol that we import is of the proper quality and that the RON of the fuel is the correct one. Are samples of air quality, especially in busy roads, ever taken? If yes, when? What were the results?
I am sure that if the manufacturers did not provide the vehicles they produced with engines to run on unleaded fuel, our country would not have even introduced this type of fuel.
One brings to mind the local wardens, who have taken it upon themselves to hide in the bushes or behind a pillar in order to give out a ticket. They even go around all the parked cars to check if the licence fee of the vehicle has been paid. This I have seen.
What I have not seen is a warden stopping a bus, truck, van or crane being stopped for these emissions or leaks. Why?
I have seen few persons now even resorting to wearing the cheap 10 cents white masks, which immediately turn black.
A person driving his/her car with windows shut cannot escape these fumes either, let alone the cyclist or biker and even more the pedestrian.
To the authorities, wardens and alike, I say - Wake up.
