Alternattiva Demokratika is objecting to an application to the Malta Planning and Environment Authority for the construction of a 12-storey residential block of apartments to take the place of the Mare D'Oro restaurant and lido at Shipwreck Promenade, St Paul's Bay.

AD's spokesperson for the environment Mark Causon said that for the past decade AD supported the residents in the area in their opposition to unsustainable development in the area.

AD had always insisted on the right of everyone to enjoy free access to the bay but this right was always threatened by developers, he said, insisting that the development of a 12-storey residential block was unsustainable. MEPA should turn down this application and thus ensure the full protection of Fekruna Bay, Mr Causon said.
