Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said that following the slump in tourism of the past months, this was now on the way to recovery as evidenced by figures issued by the National Statistics Office.

Dr Zammit Dimech said that figures for the first five months of this year showed an increase of 8,599 in arrivals, or 2.3 per cent, on the number during the same period last year.

The minister, who was speaking during the opening of a cafè in Valletta yesterday, said the same occurred in the case of tourists arriving on cruise liners.

In the first five months of this year the number of such passengers amounted to 77,732, or 4,648 more than had arrived during the same period last year.
