Call to optimise energy efficiency

Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Harry Vassallo referred to the recent power cuts and said that instead of watching demand increase and wondering how to increase supply, every effort must first be made to optimise efficiency and reduce energy demand.

"Government agencies such as the Malta Resources Authority have an obligation to direct market forces towards efficient energy use by carrying out public awareness campaigns, providing information and services which can optimise energy use and setting out a clear polluter pays policy whereby energy costs to all consumers are directly related to the level of efficiency achieved," he said.
