Reginald Abela has been appointed executive chairman of the Institute of Tourism Studies.

Mr Abela is responsible for the implementation of government policies on the development of human resources for the tourism industry according to market needs and changing economic trends.

He has also been tasked with drawing up a strategic plan for the development of the institute, including the establishment of a foundation to run the institute.

The former chairman, Anthony Gatt, will act as personal adviser to Mr Abela.
